Updates on The Ebola Re-infection in Liberia
Two more cases of Ebola have been detected in the Nedowein neighbourhood, where a 17 year old died from Ebola on Sunday.
The two individuals were said to have had physical contact with the teenager prior to his death.
The herbalist who treated the boy is also said to have escaped.
More than 100 contacts of the diseased boy have been identified and are being monitored.[WHO]
He was said to have attended school and reported at a health clinic in the week before he died.
The body of the 17 year old boy was exhumed today so as to carry out tests that can detect the mode of transmission of the virus to the boy.
The possibility of transmission from an animal has not been ruled out.
Meanwhile Ebola health centre workers stormed the Eastern Monrovia Ministry of Health today in Liberia to demand their unpaid hazard allowance since Liberia was declared free of Ebola on the 9th of May.
In Liberia alone there were about 378 Ebola Health worker infections and about 192 health worker deaths. Case fatality rate amongst health workers was at some point about 57%.
Bernice Dahn the Minister of Health said in a response that hazard allowance was paid to about 99% of Ebola treatment unit workers in Liberia. He urged everyone who feels aggrieved to come forward.
More than 11,200 people have died from Ebola since the onset of the outbreak in December 2013, Liberia was the hardest hit country with more than 4,800 Ebola related deaths prior to it being declared free of Ebola on May 9 2015.
