Breaking News .... Ebola Re-infection in Liberia
In Nedowein 30 miles South of Monrovia Liberia, the death of a 17 year old boy whose corpse was found to be infected with Ebola has aroused fears that Ebola may return to Liberia.
Mr Tolbert Nyenswah, The Liberian Deputy Health minister and Head of the Ebola response team has said that "Liberia has got a Reinfection of Ebola."
The deceased was said to have died on the 28th of June and was safely buried the same day, with members of his neighbourhood quarantined yesterday, so as to contain the infection.
He was said to have taken ill on the 21st of June and had thereafter presented at a health clinic where he was diagnosed with Malaria.
His parents immediately called the Ebola hotline after he died on Sunday.
Every member of his household is currently under quarantine and efforts are being made to locate everyone who had contact with him while he was ill.
The quick and safe burial carried out after the death was said to be a good sign.
The clinic in question probably misdiagnosed him as there has been no case of Ebola in the country since the 9th of May and Ebola infection shares similar symptoms with Malaria.
The affected area; Nedowein is not on the border with Guinea or Sierra Leone where the there is still a fierce battle to overcome the virus.
Investigations are ongoing to detect the source of this new infection.
Liberia was declared Ebola free by the WHO on the 9th of May after going 42 days without a single new case of the virus.
The Deputy Minister of Health has warned against panic. "we have it under control" he has said.
Dr Margaret Harris of the WHO has said that a country has Ebola if a single case is detected there.
