Ebola round up : Nigeria donates 1 million dollars to end Ebola



Liberia
The last four cases of the Ebola virus disease from the Margibi county in Liberia were discharged last Monday from a Monrovia clinic. In this last resurgence 2 deaths were recorded : a 17 year old boy and a lady in her twenties who is a sister to one of the recently discharged patients.

56 contacts of the deceased teen are still under observation. The observation period will end by early August.


Sierra Leone
As the number of cases of the Ebola virus disease in Sierra Leone continues to drop; the United Nations Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER) has begun to round up her activities in the region and are handing over to other organizations, governments and national structures in the country.
They will still be present in the country, however at a single desk.

4 cases of Ebola virus disease were recorded in Sierra Leone in the week to 19th July (WHO). 2 cases from the capital Freetown and 2 from Portloko. One of the cases from Freetown was not a registered contact and could not be traced as the patient had no address.


Guinea
22 new cases of the Ebola virus disease were recorded in Guinea in the week to 19th July.
3 prefectures: Conakry, Coyah, and Forecariah recorded cases. All 13 cases from Conakry, were registered contacts however, 2 of the cases were health workers. Coyah recorded 2 cases and these are the first cases to be reported from Coyah since April. The 2 cases are also registered contacts associated with a chain of transmission from Benty in Forecariah. 6 of the 7 cases reported from Forecariah were registered contacts associated with the same chain of transmission in Benty.
One case from Forecariah could not be traced.


Nigeria on Tuesday; at the International Conference on Africa’s Fight Against Ebola in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, announced a donation of $1 million(230 million Naira) to the cause to end the Ebola epidemic in West Africa.
About a year ago Nigeria recorded her first case and death through a Liberian - American, Patrick Sawyer, who brought the disease into the country.


A total of 26 cases were recorded in the 3 most affected country in the week to the 19th July.

Guinea recorded 2 new health worker infections and Sierra Leone recorded 1 case.

A total of 879 confirmed health worker infections with 510 deaths have been recorded since the beginning of the outbreak.

There have been a total of 27 705 reported confirmed, probable, and suspected cases of EVD in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone with 11 269 reported deaths since the onset of the outbreak more than a year ago. [WHO]
